Phish for Kids rescheduled to Nov. 2 in Baltimore

After getting rained out last year (booooo), our Phish for Kids show featuring Phoam is back – and indoors! – at Checkerspot Brewing in Baltimore.

We're thrilled to welcome Phoam, Maryland's best Phish tribute band, playing all our favorite Phish tunes, the morning of Saturday Nov. 2, presented by Stages Music Arts.

There's plenty of parking, as well as food and drinks.

Note: This show was originally scheduled for October 2023 at Color Burst Park in Columbia, but had to be postponed due to rain.

This is the rescheduled date! All tickets from the original date will be honored on Nov. 2.

  • Maryland Art Place (MAP) and Quinn Evans present EXCHANGE, an exhibit on energy’s role in architecture. Join the reception on Dec 10, 5–7 PM, at 100 N Charles St, Baltimore. RSVP required.
  • The Community Foundation of Howard County, which raises, manages and distributes funds to support Howard County nonprofits, will hold the Annual Dinner and Celebration of Philanthropy. At the event, the foundation will highlight accomplishments, showcase nonprofit organizations and recognize and thank individuals, families and businesses in Howard County for their generosity and leadership.

  • The University of Maryland is hosting an on-campus blood drive as part of Abbott and the Big Ten Conference’s “The We Give Blood Drive” – a first-of-its-kind college conference-wide blood donation competition.

    The competition comes at a time when the U.S. is experiencing one of the biggest blood shortages in a generation.

    The blood drive at the iconic Tyser Tower is part of the competition between the 18 Big Ten Conference schools. A $1 million prize is on the line for the winning university to advance student or community health.

    The Venezuelan Jazz Collective is an innovative jazz ensemble composed of an outstanding cast of world-class musicians based in the United States. Their awareness of the jazz tradition and an upbringing surrounded by the music of the Americas, and the world allows these performers to go from one idiom to the other with masterful spontaneity and musicianship.

    The music of their debut album “Tendencias” materializes Vielma’s vision of showcasing Venezuelan music genres blended with jazz and concert music elements. The work has been well received by the critics and it was included in the “Best of 2018” lists by NYC Jazz Record, Downbeat, Latin Jazz Network, and Ladosis Magazine.

    Francisco “Fran” Vielma was born and raised in Mérida, Venezuela. He recently premiered his suite “Common Grounds” at SFJAZZ, commissioned by the prestigious Chamber Music America - New Jazz Works and has been a DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities Fellow since 2019. He has also been a Jazz Road Tours Grantee by South Arts.

    Fran has been featured artist for the “Hispanic Heritage Celebration Concert” of the prestigious United States Army Blues Band, having performed his compositions and arrangements. He has toured around the continent with his star-studded Venezuelan Jazz Collective, “Tendencias,” who have recorded Vielma’s original works and arrangements. They were included in best of 2018 lists by Downbeat, Latin Jazz Network, and NYC Jazz Record.

    An in-demand performer, he has been involved in concerts, recordings, tours, and festivals around the world with artist such as John Medeski, George Garzone, Paul Winter, Bob Moses, Simon Phillips, Antonio Sanchez, Randy Brecker, Miguel Zenón, David Sánchez, Sean Jones, Michael Rodríguez, Army Blues Band, and Luis Enrique to name a few. He’s a current member of Cesar Orozco & Kamarata Jazz and has featured in the last two releases.

    Vielma is a Jazz Department faculty member of Peabody Institute, and he directs the Hidden Treasure Music Workshop and the Fran Vielma Jazz Orchestra. Fran Vielma endorses Meinl Percussion, Vater Drums Sticks, Istanbul Mehmet Cymbals, and Africatedra Venezuelan Percussion.
